Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is the air quality within and around your home, as it pertains to the health and comfort of you, your family, and your pets. Limiting or removing indoor pollutants can reduce health risks associated with poor indoor air quality (IAQ).
There are both short- and long-term health effects from indoor air pollutants.
Short term or immediate effects include:
• Eyes, nose, and throat irritation
These are usually treatable. Sometimes, the simplest treatment is eliminating the source of the indoor air pollution, if known. Additionally, exposure to some indoor air pollutants may cause the symptoms of diseases such as asthma to show up, be aggravated, or worsened.
Long term effects typically go unnoticed but can be severely debilitating or fatal. Long term effects of poor indoor air quality include respiratory diseases, heart disease and cancer. It is prudent to try to improve the indoor air quality in your home even if symptoms are not noticeable.

Improving Indoor Air Quality
The 3 basic strategies for improving Indoor Air Quality are Source Control, Improved Ventilation, and Air Cleaners. In many cases, source control is a more cost-efficient approach to protecting indoor air quality than increasing ventilation because increasing ventilation can increase energy costs.
Lowering the concentrations of indoor air pollutants in your home by increasing the amount of outdoor air coming indoors can be accomplished in several different ways, including:
• through natural ventilation, such as through windows and doors
• through infiltration, a process by which outdoor air flows into the house through openings, joints and cracks in walls, floors, and ceilings, and around windows and doors.
• through mechanical means, such as through outdoor air intakes associated with the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system
Infiltration and natural ventilation are not very efficient means of removing air pollution. To avoid build-up, a consistent flowrate or changing out of air must occur. Infiltration by its very nature will not be able to achieve the necessary change out of air to significantly reduce air pollutants. Natural ventilation using windows or doors is too weather dependent. The most efficient and consistent method is by mechanical means such as whole home air cleaners.
There are many types and sizes of air cleaners on the market, ranging from relatively inexpensive table-top models to sophisticated and expensive whole-house systems. Some air cleaners are highly effective at particle removal, while others, including most table-top models, are much less so.
The effectiveness of an air cleaner depends on how well it collects pollutants from indoor air (expressed as a percentage efficiency rate) and how much air it draws through the cleaning or filtering element (expressed in cubic feet per minute).

Blue Water Climate Control IAQ Solutions
Blue Water Climate Control offers several options that will drastically improve your Indoor Air Quality.
iWave is an air purifying device that installs in any duct air conditioning system. When air passes over the iWave, ions produced by the device reduce pathogens, allergens, particles, smoke and odors in the air, creating a healthy environment without producing any harmful byproducts.
iWave uses patented technology, called needle-point bi-polar ionization, to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions. When these ions are injected into the air stream, they break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor (see illustration below).
When the ions meet viruses, bacteria or mold, they remove the hydrogen molecules – without them, the pathogens have no source of energy and will die. The ions also attach to allergens like pollen and other particles, causing them to band together until they are large enough to be caught by your ventilation system’s air filter.
iWave’s technology generates the same ions that nature creates with lightening, waterfalls, ocean waves, etc. Nature uses energy and shear to break apart molecules, naturally cleaning the air and producing a healthy environment. The only difference between the iWave’s technology and nature is that the iWave does it without developing harmful ozone.
You’ll find iWave’s advanced technology provides the most effective air purification method. Other common air purification technologies require ongoing maintenance with bulb/cell replacement every year or two, making the cost of ownership undesirable.
iWave air purifiers have no harmful byproducts, and most models require no ongoing maintenance and have no replacement parts. In fact, with the iWave-R’s patent-pending self-cleaning design, you can enjoy years of maintenance-free performance.
Nu-Calgon offers a three-year limited warranty on iWave products. For a valid warranty claim within three years, proof of purchase and proof of installation by a licensed HVAC or electrical contractor must be provided.
ActivePure® is an exclusive environmental technology that can solve many everyday indoor air and surface contamination problems. Traditional passive technologies, such as HEPA, use filtration or electrostatic systems, which remove contaminants only if and when they travel through the purification unit. These traditional filtration systems can help reduce air pollution to a degree, but they do not reduce surface contamination at all and do not adequately reduce airborne contaminants. Our proprietary ActivePure® Technology actively targets contaminants in the air and on surfaces, eliminating them on contact.
